Lymm Wine Beer Circle was started up in 1977 by a
handful of enthusiasts interested in furthering their knowledge and
appreciation of wine. The first meeting was held in the Spread Eagle
Hotel, Lymm and has met monthly ever since. From its early
beginnings the membership of the Circle grew rapidly from the original handful
and now stands at around 90 - 100 members, The early roots of the
Circle were in home brewing and winemaking, but this has evolved over
the years so that the current activities are almost entirely devoted to
appreciation of commercial wines and beers.
The main focus of the club is to widen members' tasting experience of
wines and beers from around the world and develop an approach to tasting
that is informed but unpretentious and above all fun. The monthly
programme includes tastings organised by wine merchants and suppliers
and events organised by club members; talks and presentations of a wider
interest, such as local history, specialist foods, the environment,
business and charities. Meetings are lively and a great opportunity for
socialising.
Other activities outside the monthly programme include theatre visits,
walks, visits to breweries and vineyards, a dinner party circle, and a
caravan group which has explored many of the wine regions of Europe and the
better pubs of the UK. Members may participate in any of these activities
that appeal to them.
We meet at 8.00pm on the fourth Wednesday of every month at The British Legion in
Lymm. A full list of
activities for the coming year can be found on our Programme of
Events page. We are always interested in hearing from fellow
enthusiasts who may wish to join us. If you are interested, email
us to arrange an introduction.
